Braille Transcriber Training
|
Training is offered to sighted
persons wishing to become certified Braille transcribers. The training
will be held, beginning in January 2007, in our offices in Golden Valley. The
average length of time for the class is 6 months, meeting one evening
a week for 2-1/2 hours. The class is tuition free, and all materials
and equipment are provided.
|
Considerable time must be spent outside of class doing homework
and studying the lessons. Certification is earned through the Library
of Congress upon submission and approval of a trial manuscript. (Library
of Congress/National Library Service: www.loc.gov/nls/)
|
We expect a reimbursement for this training in the form of volunteer
transcription of assignments through our office or through the Communication
Center at State Services for the Blind. (www.mnssb.org/)
